Reiki is an ancient system of natural healing involving the laying on of hands. The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words - Rei and Ki. Rei-Ki means spiritual energy or universal life force energy. This system of healing has been used for thousands of years; it was used by the monks of Tibet and then rediscovered and developed in the early 1900's by Mikao Usui in Japan.

Rei, the upper Kanji, generally means universal. But also means spiritual consciousness, higher wisdom or higher self. Ki, the lower Kanji, means life force; energy.

The Reiki that I practice . . . Reiki is actually a generic word in Japan and is used to describe different types of healing work. The Reiki that I practice is Usui System of Natural Healing or Usui Shiki Reiki Ryoho, with Tibetan influences.
